2007, 18ft. 225 Hydroplane Zipper
Hacker Design

(owned by Jeff Hughes)

Jan. 2007

Very fitting for one of our newest members to be building a new wooden boat! The first wooden hydroplane in club, this promises to be quit an interesting project for Jeff!

Construction has started. Frame numbers 1 through 12 have been machined out of 1/2 Baltic Birch. Each frame is continuous with no joints. Frames 4,5,6, and 7 are shown in the pictures below. Each frame is machined with a 1/4 round to remove all sharp edges and allow for more glue surface. The frames have been notch for the stringers. Next step is to machine the stringers and begin assembly. Batten and lightning hole will be cut into the frames once the assembly begins.

May 2007: The frames are fastened and glued to the stringers. (webmaster's note: Kind of beginning to look like a boat!)... See sample of the plan (middle picture).....

Displayed Sept. 22/07 ath the Club's Guys in their Garages Tour....

Stay tuned to follow the progress....
